A man was left bloodied following a clash with Conor McGregor's security detail.
The altercation took place in Dubai, where the Dublin-born fighter was promoting a BKFC event at the Duty Free Tennis Stadium on Friday. McGregor navigated through a throng of eager fans hoping to catch sight of the MMA star as he made his way around the venue, appearing cheerful as he interacted with supporters.
Suddenly, a bold spectator attempted to breach the security barrier surrounding McGregor, only to receive a firm right hook from one of the guards who wasn't entertaining any mischief. McGregor seemed unperturbed by the commotion, nonchalantly shrugging his shoulders as his security team dealt with the individual, according to The Irish Star.
The 36 year old briefly tried to see what was happening and identify the person who had tried to get too close, before quickly resuming his evening. Footage later shows the thwarted intruder being escorted away, blood streaming down his face.
McGregor, who bought a significant stake in BKFC last year, has hinted at stepping into the bare-knuckle boxing ring soon. He still has two fights remaining on his UFC contract, although he hasn't competed in the octagon since sustaining a leg injury during a bout with Dustin Poirier in July 2021, reports the Irish Mirror.
McGregor's anticipated return to the ring against Michael Chandler this June was scrapped when he suffered a broken toe, leaving fans hanging for news on when the fight might be back on the cards. Tired of waiting, McGregor has teased the possibility of bypassing UFC and jumping into Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship with little to no warning.
"One of these days you'll just hear my music come onto this stage in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and I'll have my fist wrapped with no gloves for a fight, out of nowhere," McGregor shared with The Schmo. "No promotion. No promo. No nothing. Just fighting a random fight on the card. That could be what the future holds."
Last week, McGregor updated reporters: "I've got two fights on the [UFC] contract, I'm in negotiations. Last week, something happened to me. I went to the White House, and my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there's a lot of stuff going on back home... I'm happy with what I've done."
Further commenting, McGregor said: "There's something else for me that's in my gut right now, and that's kind of where I'm going. So we'll see, greatness doesn't rush. And right now, Ireland is in my thoughts and that's where I'm at."
