The Australian Government has pledged $2.8 million to support the planning and design of the East Lake Railway Precinct, a major urban renewal project in Canberra. This initiative, part of the $150 million Urban Precincts and Partnerships Program (uPPP), complements the ACT Government's $3 million investment in shaping the precinct's future. The project aims to create a vibrant, sustainable community, supporting 5000 new dwellings and over a thousand jobs across various sectors. The Kingston precinct will feature a mix of multi-unit housing and commercial spaces, with a focus on innovation and community engagement. The former landfill site in the north-west corner will be transformed into community and cultural facilities, enhancing the area's livability and cultural offerings. The project's success hinges on the timely completion of master planning, with the ACT Government aiming for a 18-24 month timeline. This will pave the way for the release of land and the commencement of construction. The East Lake Place Plan outlines a vision for a diverse and sustainable Railway Precinct, with a mix of commercial, residential, and public buildings, mostly ranging from four to six storeys, and strategic eight-storey developments. The project's multi-modal transport hub concept, including a new railway station, rapid bus routes, and potential collaboration with the NSW Government, is a key focus.
